Africa's Broadcasters Should Experience Massive Growth In Addressable Market - Intelsat
Christell Meyer, a senior sales director at Intelsat, has asserted that the African broadcasting space will experience exponential growth in audience numbers within the next five to ten years! Ms Meyer was delivering a keynote presentation during last week's industry forum on "Reshaping Africa's Broadcasting Industry - Strategies For Acceleration. Broadcast Media Africa presented the industry forum in collaboration with Intelsat.
Referencing industry and market research that Intelsat has accessed, Ms Meyer said "Africa will get a massive increase in audiences, whether that be through traditional TV or online platforms. Because of the expected market and audience 'explosion' in Africa, the Intelsat's executive commented that "only satellite has the ability to reach the large viewership in Africa instantly with multiple formats support. It is also the cheapest means of reaching one hundred per cent of your population within the coverage area.
"As a result, Intelsat has seen an increasing number of free to air deployments using DTH or direct to the home as a route to market. We have also seen more operators looking at deploying hybrid networks to cater for both DTT and DTH to reach 100 per cent of the population within a particular country." said Christell Meyer
