Netflix Cancels Season 2 Of 'Queen Sono' - An Original South African Production

Netflix has announced, abruptly, that it has cancelled its agreed renewal deal for the second season of the South African original drama series "Queen Sono".  Kagiso Lediga, director at Diprente Films (the producer of Queen Sono), expressed his disappointment and regretted that the show "couldn't be executed in these current trying times".
Netflix's statement on the matter simple said: We've made the difficult decision not to move forward with season 2 of Queen Sono. We are incredibly proud of the Diprente team for sharing their audacious vision and bringing it to life with Netflix. We'd continue to work closely with South Africa's creative industry to keep producing more compelling 'made-in-South Africa' stories." According to TV with Thinus.
Questions are now being asked as to why Netflix decided to pull the plug on African productions to which it had previously agreed. It is to be recalled that Netflix also cancelled renewals of hitherto agreed show like I am Not Okay, GLOW and The Society.
Analysts wonders if the economic realities of Covid-19 pandemic are setting in, even for a deep-pocket company like Netflix. Or is it a trend of something much more structural taking place at Netflix vis-a-vis the African content marketplace?
