Universal Appoints Nigerian-born Pearlena Igbokwe As 'Chairman' Of Universal Studio Group
Media executive, Pearlena Igbokwe has been appointed as the chairman of the US Universal Studio Group. According to Universal's statement on the appointment, Ms Igbokwe will lead the company's global television studio business, reporting to Universal's CEO, Jeff Shell.
Universal Studio Group is part of the global news and entertainment behemoth, NBCUniversal involved in the worldwide development, production and marketing of information, news and entertainment services.
Pearlena Igbokwe, who was born in Nigeria, is acknowledged to be a trailblazer, being the first woman-from-Africa to lead a major US television studio, a fact that has not been lost on the Nigerian government who has sprung-up to offer their congratulatory messages to Ms Igbokwe.
A statement from Nigeria's Information and Culture Minister reads:" The fact that, in her new role, Igbokwe will lead the American company's growing global television studio business, which includes Universal Television, Universal Content Productions (UCP) and NBCUniversal International Studios, is a pointer to the vast responsibility that comes with the promotion and a testimony to her capability. Igbokwe is an inspiration to millions of youths around the world and, in particular, those in our country's burgeoning Creative Industry. We wish her success in her new role,".
