South Africa: Unrelenting Covid-19 Outbreak Causes Production Houses And News Rooms To Struggle
The seemingly implacable coronavirus situation across South Africa is taking a heavy toll on the country's broadcast media industry with a string of content production shuttering. And now, many of the country's leading newsrooms are close to crisis point as staff continue to test positive for Covid-19.
It is being reported that eNCA, SABC News and Newzroom Africa have been particularly affected and are most vulnerable to the crisis.
Also, according to "TV With Thinus" - a local industry tracking blog - the production of the very popular 'Uzalo' on SABC1 has been shuttered due to coronavirus. Although Stain Glass TV, the producers are keen to emphasise the shutdown will be temporary, and SABC1 will still air the show as usual.
The shuttering of the production of Uzalo follows a string of other TV content productions such as The River, Skeem Saam, Muvhango, Rhythm City, Scandal!, 7de Laan, The Legacy, Generations, Lithapo, Imbewu, Suidooster and many more that have been shuttered or adversely impacted operationally by the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.
