Multichoice Signs Brits ITV's Coronation Street, Emmerdale for Mnet; Closes ITV Choice Channel
Multichoice has bought the rights to Britain ITV programmes including The Chase, Emmerdale and Coronation Street. These content will, however, only be seen on Mnet as the dedicated ITV Choice channel has been removed from DStv.
Poor ratings of the ITV Choice channel resulted in it being pulled from DStv last May, and now Multichoice has cherry-picked some of the choice programmes for MNET.
On that Jan du Plessis, director of M-Net channels, said: "Our hand-picked selection of the best of the best British reality shows has been audience favourites for many years. We've learnt that the viewers of our M-Net's general entertainment channels are global citizens who enjoy a variety of stories from different countries and cultures. Adding a wider selection of British genres will not only enable us to bring more fresh content to African shores but also spice up some of our day-time schedules."
M-Net channels will continue to build on its British offering in future, while also acquiring the "crème de la crème of European series". "These international productions will complement our existing first-rate schedules." He concluded.
Season 13 of The Chase (a game show) will be added to the midday weekday slots on Mnet, while Coronation Street and Emmerdale are being put on M-Net City.
