Multichoice Showmax Withdraws Local Films With Alleged Racist Content
Multichoice Group, the behemoth of Africa’s Pay-TV entertainment and sports content has commenced the immediate review and withdrawal of some of its alleged ’racist’ film content in the wake of the global anti-racist ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement.
Multichoice, has reportedly withdrawn the films by the producer and comedian, Leon Schuster from it stables for allegedly containing derisory use of black and brown faces. Although Mr Schuster says he can’t believe that the content of his films does any harm,”
Regarding the review and withdrawal of content with racist elements and undertones, the head of communications at Multichoice’s Showmax said it is precautionary pending a full review.
Industry watchers are dubious about the move from Showmax given that, the organisation, although based in Africa has until now been okay with the Leon Schuster films which by all accounts have already raked millions into Multichoice’s coffers.
