SuperSport Gets Formula One TV Rights For Another Three Years
SuperSport - the sports franchise of Africa’s dominant Pay-TV player, Multichoice - has agreed to a rights extension with F1 to cover the next three years.
SuperSport has, for some years now, been the sole broadcaster of Formula One races across English-speaking countries in sub-Saharan Africa. And there are unconfirmed rumours that MultiChoice may also be looking to extend it F1 broadcast franchise to French-speaking Africa if a deal is not reached between F1 management and Canal+.
According to reporting by SportBusiness, the extension deal between SuperSport and F1 was sealed earlier this year was only recently announced, having been iced as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is understood that as part of the article extension deal, Formula One Management could be obliged to deploy its premium pay OTT offering - F1 TV Pro - across the sub-Saharan region also.
