Casting And Location Scouting Starting Soon For M-Net's Forthcoming 'Shaka' Series

Casting and location scouting will begin soon to find the perfect place and talent to film M-Net's edition of the story of the South African Zulu king Shaka that will be aired as a new drama series on DStv's Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161).

In addition to broadcasting Shaka in South Africa and all across Sub-Saharan Africa on MultiChoice's DStv satellite pay-TV platform, M-Net plans to sell the prestige series to the world, showcasing to international broadcasters the production quality and talent that exists in South Africa.

With Shaka M-Net aims to lure more international co-productions filmed in South Africa and across Africa and make content buyers from all over the world aware of the volume of local content that is available for international broadcasters.

Produced by Bomb Productions, M-Net announced in May 2018 that it had commissioned a 12-episode drama series in an effort to tell the story of the Zulu King Shaka kaSenzangakhona.

The black historical drama will explore precolonial South Africa and the rise of Shaka Zulu.

Yolisa Phahle, MultiChoice's CEO for General Entertainment, said that starting this journey towards the making of a new Shaka Zulu series was history in the making and that through the casting process MultiChoice looks forward to unearthing and then showcasing the fantastic pool of talent that lies within South Africa.
