“Keep up with new advancements in broadcast content delivery or go extinct,” Says Farhad Omar, CEO, ITV Networks
Farhad Omar, CEO of ITV Networks warns industry stakeholders of the trouble they could potentially find themselves in if they neglect to pay attention and explore the various ways to keep up with the rapidly evolving media industry, especially with regards to content acquisition, delivery and monetisation.
Farhad, in an interview with Broadcast Media Africa (BMA), in preparation for the Industry OTT Content Streaming and VOD Services Forum taking place on the 5th – 6th February 2019 at the in Radisson Blu (Gautrain) Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa is urging the industry to take advantage of all learning opportunities in order not to be left behind as digital takes over.
Below is an excerpt of the conversation Farhad had with the BMA on the forthcoming Forum where he is a featured speaker and panellist:
BMA: Why did you decide to get involved in this Industry Forum On OTT Content Streaming And VOD Services?
Farhad: The media industry is changing rapidly as linear merges with digital.
I decided to get involved with this particular forum to explore all the new changes that are happening and also to learn new ways from the global markets for us all to keep up. The industry is at a very critical point, and stakeholders will find themselves in trouble if they do not keep up with all the new advancements.
BMA: What are your aspirations for the industry in relation to understanding broadcast content and distribution for a fragmented broadcast environment?
Farhad: I would like to see an industry that has come to terms with how to re-look at content, taking into consideration the massive transformation that the sector is undergoing.
Stakeholders also need to budget well for content acquisition to deliver programming that is current with the times.
BMA: Could you please tell us what you hope fellow participants will take away from this industry event?
Farhad: I am hoping that fellow participants walk away from the forum with a fresh and clear understanding of the number of ways that we can now implement to grow the industry.
We should take away with us new ways to capitalise on the changes that come with OTT content streaming and VOD services.
BMA: What are your expectations for the Industry Forum in February?
Farhad: I intend to offer clarity and insight when I give my presentation.
I also hope to walk away with a fresh outlook on the various ways forward regarding OTT content streaming and VOD services.
