Disney Appoints Former BBC Exec To Head Euro And Africa Original Productions

Disney has welcomed the former BBC exec, Liam Keelan, in a new role heading original productions across Europe and Africa.

Keelan, who resigned from BBC Studios’ scripted division last year, has now joined Disney in the new role of Vice President of Original Productions, Television, Europe and Africa. He will oversee all commissioning activities across its linear channels as well as the upcoming streaming service Disney+.

The appointment comes just as Disney is preparing to launch Disney+ in UK, France, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Austria at the end of March. He is set to join the company next month and will be reporting directly to Diego Londono, Disney’s Executive Vice President of Media Networks and Content.

Keelan joined BBC Studios which was then known as BBC Worldwide in 2013.

There he oversaw all investments in scripted shows including Luther and Doctor Who.

Before that, he was the Controller of Daytime Television for BBC’s linear channels. The British trade magazine, Broadcast, initially reported Keelan’s hire.
